A rebellious force
Counterculture ain't just a buzzword, it's a rebellious force that’s been breaking rules and smashing norms from the get-go. It’s the lifeblood of art, fashion, and of course music, where genres like punk, metal, and rock went from the underground to cultural bombs that shook the world. What started as a middle finger to the mainstream ended up creating its own culture.
No doubt about it, counterculture is a powerhouse for anyone with a creative spark. That’s why Spotify unleashed COUNTER//CULTURE, a series of raw, no-rules playlists where artists from all walks of life drop their own mixtapes, packed with tracks that keep pushing them beyond the edge. Icons like Jack White, Lenny Kravitz, and St. Vincent are just a few of the rebels throwing down their picks, with every month bringing fresh voices who add their own fuel to the fire.
A visual identity that hits hard
COUNTER//CULTURE is here to light a fire under its listeners. And Vasava’s mission? To make the visual identity of these mixtapes hit just as hard as the music.
So, we threw it back to the DIY punk scene of the ‘70s and ‘80s, where cut-and-paste collages, photocopies, and raw energy ruled the streets in the US and UK.
A raw, gritty aesthetic
The COUNTER//CULTURE logo? Built from rough, torn-up press clippings, slapped on top of gritty artist photos.
The colors shift and grind with each photo, letting every cover build on the last, while giving each artist their due. This collection isn't just a tribute—it's a loud, in-your-face reminder of the role counterculture plays in keeping music dangerous, daring, and alive.
